About Symbios Animal Health.
The term "Symbios" is derived from "symbiosis," which originates from the Greek words sym (meaning "together") and bios (meaning "life"). Symbiosis refers to a close and mutually beneficial relationship between two different organisms or entities. In a broader sense, it symbolizes cooperation, partnership, and a harmonious connection that enhances the well-being of both parties. At Symbios Animal Health, this concept represents more than just the relationship between pets and their veterinary team, it embodies the profound and enduring human-animal bond. Pets are more than companions; they are family, providing unconditional love, joy, and emotional support. In turn, we believe in honoring that bond by delivering compassionate care that strengthens the connection between people and their pets. Our team works collaboratively with pet families to promote health and happiness, ensuring that this unique partnership thrives at every stage.

Meet the Owners

Dr. Nick Pope
Nick grew up on an Oklahoma farm, inspired by his grandmother, who managed a multi-doctor veterinary clinic in his hometown. That is where his belief in veterinarian-owned practice began. He lives on a small farm in Somerset County with his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Pope, their sons Benjamin and William, their Labradors, Nora and Brody, and a small herd of cows, goats, and chickens. When he is not at one of the hospitals, you will find him fishing the Raritan or golfing.

Dr. Elizabeth Pope
Elizabeth grew up in New Jersey knowing she wanted to be a veterinarian. She met Nick at Oklahoma State's veterinary program, and the two returned to New Jersey to build something of their own. She has been part of South Branch Veterinary Services since 2017, with a focus on internal medicine, dentistry, and leading the South Branch team.

Dr. Jan Cailles
Dr. Jan Cailles has practiced veterinary medicine in New Jersey for more than twenty years. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, she built Oldwick Animal Hospital in Tewksbury Township, where she lives with her husband, Glenn, and their daughter, Margeaux. She brought her hospital into the Symbios family and remains one of its owners, with professional interests in emergency medicine, zoo animal medicine, and family practice.

My family and I are so grateful to our former vet who recommended Symbios Animal Health in Chatham to us when he retired. The team here is exceptional. They treated our senior dog with so much love and kindness in her final year. The care is personalized, so each vet and vet tech knew our dog by name and knew her health history. (We wish we could go to the vet for our health care!) We also opted to pay for the less-expensive concierge plan, which lasted
